What Should You Bring to a Newborn Photography Session?

One of the first questions many new parents have after booking a newborn photography session is, “What do I actually need to bring?”

The good news? Not as much as you might think.

At Priscilla Green Photography, we plan your newborn session with the goal of making the experience as easy and comfortable as possible. Our Charlotte studio has many of the essentials you'll need for your baby's portraits, so you don't need to arrive with an entire car full of props and outfits.

Here is what we recommend bringing with you.

Your Newborn Photography Checklist

Before leaving home, here's a simple checklist:

For Baby

• Diapers

• Wipes

• Pacifier

  • A pacifier can sometimes help soothe your baby between poses or while we're transitioning from one setup to another. It doesn't necessarily need to be used in the final photographs.

• Feeding supplies

  • If your baby takes a bottle, bring everything you normally use for feeding.

  • Newborn sessions can take time, and babies are often hungry at the most unexpected moments. Feeding breaks are completely normal and built into the experience.

  • If you're breastfeeding, you don't need to bring anything special. Simply plan to feed your baby as you normally would.

  • A hungry baby is a much harder baby to photograph!

• Any special comfort item

• Any sentimental item you'd like photographed

For Parents

• Your planned outfits

• A backup outfit

• Personal necessities

For Siblings

• Their planned outfit

• Backup clothes

• A favorite snack or quiet activity

And that's really it!

What You DON'T Need to Bring

This is where parents are often pleasantly surprised.

You generally don't need to bring:

• Lots of newborn outfits

• Large props

• Blankets for every setup

• Baskets or furniture

• A collection of matching accessories

• Professional posing experience

Our studio has wraps, newborn pieces, props, and styling options available for your session.

If you have something specific you'd like to incorporate, simply let us know beforehand so we can decide together whether it fits your vision.
