When Should You Book a Newborn Photographer in Charlotte?
If you’re expecting a baby in Charlotte, one of the questions you may be asking is: When should I book my newborn photographer?
The short answer? As early as possible during your pregnancy.

Newborn photography is different from booking a typical family portrait session because the best time for those sweet, sleepy newborn images happens within a relatively short window after your baby arrives. Planning ahead gives you the best chance of getting the date and experience you want—without having to worry about finding a photographer after your baby is already here.
At Priscilla Green Photography, we recommend booking your newborn session during your second or early third trimester, ideally around 20–32 weeks of pregnancy.
ut don't worry if you're already further along. We often work with families who book later in pregnancy or even after their baby arrives, depending on studio availability.
Why Should You Book Your Newborn Session Before Your Baby Arrives?
Your due date gives us a starting point for planning your session.
When you reserve your newborn session during pregnancy, we place your estimated due date on our calendar. Once your baby arrives, you simply let us know and we'll work together to choose the best available date for your session.
This is especially helpful because babies don't always arrive on schedule!
Your little one may arrive two weeks early—or decide to stay cozy a little longer. Rather than scheduling your newborn session for one specific day months in advance, we plan around your due date and your baby's actual arrival.
It also gives you time to enjoy the fun part of preparing for your session without feeling rushed.
When Is the Best Time to Take Newborn Photos?
For traditional posed newborn photography, we typically recommend photographing your baby when they are about 5–14 days old.
During this stage, many newborns are still very sleepy and naturally curl into those tiny, sweet positions that make newborn portraits so special.
That said, there isn't a magic expiration date on newborn photography.
If your baby is a few weeks old—or even around a month old—we can still create beautiful photographs. The session may simply look a little different as your baby becomes more alert and expressive.
Our goal isn't to force your baby into a particular pose or make the session fit a formula. We work with your baby's personality, comfort, and stage of development.
What If My Baby Comes Early?
Every baby and every birth story is different, and your session should be planned accordingly.
This is one of the reasons we recommend booking by your due date rather than waiting until after your baby is born.
If your baby arrives early, just send us a message. We'll adjust the plan based on your baby's arrival and our studio availability.
If your little one needs additional time before coming in for photographs, we can work around that too.
